Galiakot is a town in Dungarpur district of the Indian state of Rajasthan. The town is frequently visited by people due to the famous tomb of Babjee Moula Syedi Fakhruddin situated here. Lunawada, Sagwara, Modasa and Bargi are some of the nearby cities from here.

Geography of Galiakot

Galiakot is located at geographical coordinates of 23.536°N and 74.009°E with an average elevation of 145 meters or 475 feet above sea level. It is situated on the banks of River Mahi and is located 45 km from the district headquarters of Dungarpur and 498 km from the state capital of Jaipur.

The town is well connected by road and rail network. There are frequent buses operating here on different routes. There is a railway station here however Udaipur station is the nearest major railway station from here located at a distance of 132 km.

History and Culture of Galiakot

The renowned Muslim saint Babjee Moula Syedi Fakhruddin lived here in 10th century. Hindi and Rajasthani are the local languages spoken here. As per the census of 2011, the town has a population of 4,707 of which 2,339 are males and 2,368 are females. The town has a literacy rate of 71.5% which is higher than the state average of 66.11%.

Tourism in Galiakot

Galiakot is a place of historical importance and one of the most visited villages in Rajasthan. It is the abode of Dargah of Pir Fakhuruddin and is visited by thousands of people every year to pay their homage. The Dargah is built with white marble with the teachings of Holy Quran engraved on them and is believed to be more than 900 years old. There are also many famous temples here including Sheetla Mata Mandir and Jain Temple. There is also an old fort situated here.

Being in Galiakot is also an opportunity for anyone to explore some of the nearby tourist destinations in Dungarpur district like Udai Bilas Palace, Juna Mahal, Gaib Sagar Lake, Government Archaeological Museum, Badal Mahal and Baneshwar Temple.
